00:13 Five Major Factors That Influence Your Video’s YouTube Ranking
There are a number of factors that influence your video’s YouTube ranking, and in this video, we’re going to go over the most important ones.:
The first factor is the number of views your video has received. This is also known as “watch time.” This is one of the most important factors because it shows how compelling your content is. If people are watching your videos for an extended period of time, then they’re probably enjoying what they see! What’s more, when you get a lot of views, YouTube will notice your video and rank it higher in search results. It’s also important to note that not all views are created equal. YouTube considers organic, or free, views as more valuable than paid views.
The second is the number of comments and “likes” your video receives. This can also be called the “engagement rate.” This is good because it shows that people are interacting with what you’ve posted, and they’re probably telling their friends about it too! What’s more, having a high engagement rate for any video you put out means that the content you’re creating resonates well with your target audience, which is always a good indication!
Thirdly, there’s the length of time a video is watched. This one might seem obvious, but it’s important to note that longer videos tend to get better rankings than shorter ones because they’re viewed longer and therefore have more time to rack up views.
Another important factor here is how many times people click away from your video before watching it all the way through to its endpoint. If someone clicks away from watching a video after only 2 seconds, then YouTube will see this as an indication that people aren’t interested in what you’re showing them, and so, they won’t rank that particular piece of content highly overall within their search results pages.
Finally, let’s talk about watch time percentage, which refers to how much total watch time your video has compared to its total duration. This can be tricky because some videos are just naturally easier or harder for people to watch entirely, like a movie or TV show versus an educational video on how to do something. However, if you want better rankings, aim for at least 50% of your viewers to watch at least half of your videos from start to finish!
