Authoritative Backlinks: How to Verify the Authority of a Website or a Backlink

Chapter
00:20 Five Ways to Check a Backlink or Website’s Authority

In the world of SEO, the importance of having authoritative backlinks on your website cannot be understated. With that, it’s also important for you to understand how to determine whether or not a given backlink is authoritative.

That’s why, in this video, we’re going to be looking at the different ways you can check a backlink’s authority.

First and foremost, you can look at the anchor text that is used to link to your site. The anchor text is what the link says, and it’s usually a few words that describe the page you’re linking to. If the anchor text is relevant, then it’s likely that the backlink will be seen as authoritative by Google. What’s more, if the anchor text is not too long and doesn’t contain too many keywords or phrases that are on your website but are also used elsewhere, then it probably means that the link was earned by merit.

Another important factor that you need to consider when checking for a backlink or a website’s authority is the source website’s domain’s age. The older the domain, the better the backlink. Newer domains can’t compete with older ones in terms of authority and relevance.

Next, you should also take a look at how many pages are linked to that domain. If only one page links to your site, it’s probably not a very good backlink. However, if many pages link to your site from that domain, then this could be an indicator of authority.

For the fourth point, you should also look at how many domains are linking to the one you’re analyzing. If there are only a few domains pointing at this particular site, then it’s probably not very authoritative. On the other hand, if there are hundreds or thousands of domains pointing at it, then this may indicate some sort of authority. Remember, the more links there are pointing to the source website, the more likely it is that the site has been vetted by other experts in your field as being worthy of linking to!

Finally, you can look at the domain authority of the site that’s linking to you. The higher the domain authority, the more likely it is that the link was earned by merit. You can find this number on Moz’s Open Site Explorer (OSE) or any other backlink analysis tool, such as Ahrefs or SEMrush.
