As a Google search engine optimization (SEO) expert, and as a person who is passionate about user experience design, I have been asked many times: “What does Google’s webmaster guideline say about user experience design?”
The answer is simple: not much! But that doesn’t mean it’s not important. In fact, it’s one of the most important things you can do for your website.
Google is starting to pay more attention to how well a site meets its users’ needs—and that means looking at things like accessibility, usability, and overall satisfaction with the experience. Here’s what Google says about this in their Webmaster Guidelines: “We expect your site to be accessible and easy to use.”
They also say: “If you want us to consider your content for our index we recommend making it available on other sites as well.” In other words, if you want your content to appear in search results on Google Search—and therefore get traffic from people who are looking for it—you should make it available somewhere else on the internet as well!
Well, it says that it’s important! The guidelines state that Google wants to reward sites that provide a great user experience. That means sites should be easy to navigate and find what you’re looking for quickly and easily.
It also says that Google considers factors like layout, speed, accuracy, and ease of use when determining how well a site will rank in search results. That means if your site has a confusing layout or takes too long to load, it won’t rank as highly as one that doesn’t have these issues.
