There are a ton of ways to conduct influencer outreach within your industry, but the best way is to be authentic.
When you’re trying to reach out to an influencer, don’t just send them a cold email asking for something. That’s not how it works!
Instead, start by finding out who they are and what they do. Are they bloggers? Do they have a podcast? Are they on Instagram all day long? Find out where they hang out online and then start interacting with them there. Share their content, comment on it, and give them feedback, but don’t ask for anything or try to sell them anything. Just get to know them as human beings first! Then, when you have established that trust with that person, you can ask them if they’d like more information about what you do and how it might help them. It probably will!
Now, let’s say you’ve found your influencer. And now you need to reach out to them. How do you make sure your message gets through?
The first step is to find out where the influencer is most active. If they’re on Twitter, then you may want to reach out through a DM or tweet. If they’re more active on Instagram, then you may want to post a photo with a caption asking for a shoutout.
Once you’ve identified the right place, then it’s time to craft your message. Make sure it’s short and sweet. You don’t want it to read like an advertisement or sales pitch. Instead, focus on what you can offer them: how their followers might benefit from hearing about your product or service, or vice versa.
Additionally, make sure your pitch is personalized and customized for each individual influencer you’re trying to reach.
Also, don’t just email them. Be sure to call them too! It’s worth it to pick up the phone and make the effort if it means reaching out to someone who can help you grow your brand.
Lastly, don’t be afraid of rejection. Even the most popular brands get turned down by influencers sometimes! Just keep trying until you finally connect with someone who wants to work with you, and don’t take it personally if they say no at first. They might change their mind later.
