A backlink is a link from another website that points to your own. Backlinks help search engines determine the value of your site, and they can also help you get more visitors to your site.

Additionally, there are two types of backlinks: dofollow and nofollow. Dofollow links will pass on the ranking power of the page they’re on to any pages they link to. Nofollow links, on the other hand, won’t pass on any of their ranking power. So, this makes nofollow links great for linking to other sites that you want to promote, like your social media profiles, but not so good for promoting yourself or your site.
Furthermore, These backlinks can be either internal, meaning on the same domain, or external, or on another domain.
Internal links are those that point to specific pages within your site. For instance, if I wrote an article about “What Is A Backlink” on my blog, then my readers could click on the words “what is a backlink” and be taken directly to that page.
Now, as for external links, they point at least one level away from your own website. If I were writing an article about “What Is A Backlink” for Wikipedia, then my readers could click on the words “what is a backlink” and be taken directly to that article.
Finally, Google uses backlinks as a way of figuring out which sites are more important than others in their search engine results. When you have more backlinks than another site, Google will rank yours higher in search results than theirs.
Backlinks can come from many different places: other websites, social media profiles, blogs, etc. The best kind of backlink is one that comes from an authoritative site, which is a site that has high authority on Google’s ranking algorithm because it has been around for a long time and has lots of links pointing to it from other similar sites with high authority. This is called “inbound linking.”
Overall, and as we’ve mentioned, a backlink can help your website rank higher in search engines and drive more traffic to it. However, you need to be careful. If your site doesn’t have good content, or if you’re trying to build too many links too quickly, you could end up getting penalized by Google for having an unnatural number of incoming links.
