00:13 Mistakes You Should Avoid When Getting Relevant Backlinks

When it comes to getting relevant backlinks, there are a lot of things you can do wrong. Here are some of the most common mistakes people make.

One of the most common mistakes you can make when trying to get relevant backlinks is not doing your research. You’ll want to know as much as possible about who you’re reaching out to, what their business is all about, and whether they’d be interested in linking to you.

If you don’t do your research, then you could be reaching out to someone who doesn’t have the time or resources to provide a link back. This can be frustrating for both parties. One, because they don’t want to provide a link and feel like they’re being taken advantage of, and two, because it makes it so that they don’t have any information on why they should or shouldn’t link with you.

Another mistake people often make when trying to get relevant backlinks is using spammy tactics. One example of this would be emailing everyone who has ever worked at a company asking them if they would mind linking with them on their website. This is something that Google frowns upon and will quickly penalize your site for doing this too often.

The third mistake people often make is not researching their audience. If you’re trying to build backlinks for your website, you have to know who you’re building them for. Who are your ideal customers? What kind of content do they like? What do they search for on Google? How often do they use social media? You need to know these things before you start building links so you can target them with the right types of content and build links that’ll appeal to them.

Lastly, a mistake you definitely want to avoid is not knowing where your competitors are getting their backlinks from.

There are two ways to find out where your competitors are getting their backlinks: manually or automatically. Manual research involves going on Google’s search console and looking at all the sites that link to your competitor’s website to see how many total links they have coming in each month, what types of sites are linking to them, and which ones are sending the most traffic through those links. Automated research, on the other hand, uses software like Ahrefs or SEMrush to accomplish the same things faster and more efficiently.
