If they can’t show you any evidence of that, run in the opposite direction!
Also, be sure to check out their last few projects before hiring them. If they don’t show you any examples, then it’s probably because they don’t have any. And if they do have examples, but they’re not very good or don’t seem like they were done by someone who knows what they’re doing, well, then again, run away!
With that, the first kind of SEO consultant you should avoid is the snake oil salesman. These consultants will try to sell you on a specific method or process that they claim will get your site ranked higher in Google’s search results, but it won’t work. They’ll promise results that aren’t possible and try to get you to sign up for their services before giving any kind of guarantee about what they can do for you.
The second type of SEO consultant that you should avoid at all costs is the person who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They may have had success with other clients, but if they don’t understand how Google’s algorithm works or how it determines where websites appear in search results, then they’re not going to be able to help you at all.
Finally, there’s the inexperienced consultant who hasn’t been properly trained in SEO best practices or website optimization techniques. With this type of person, you’ll find yourself paying them money and getting nothing in return because they don’t know how to do their job properly! The worst case scenario is that their work can actually hurt your business’ overall SEO and reputation. Essentially, they’ll do more harm than good.
