Things to Avoid When Using YouTube for SEO

Contents

One of the most common misconceptions about using YouTube for SEO is that you can get away with using poor-quality videos. While it’s true that there’s no minimum length requirement for videos, and you can even get away with having one sentence per video, it’s not a good idea to make this your standard practice.

If you want to keep people on your site, then you should make sure that your video content is of high quality. You can tell when the content of a video is high-quality by looking at its length, the number of views, and the amount of time people spend watching it. If you want to get more views on your videos and rank higher in search engine results, then you should create videos that are longer than two minutes long and have more than 10,000 views. This also means taking an extra few minutes to make sure that your script is well-written, and that the video itself is edited.

You also need to make sure that you have good lighting and sound quality if you’re going to be using a webcam or smartphone camera. If possible, try using a tripod so the camera remains steady throughout the video. You could also invest in some sort of mic or audio equipment if necessary, but try not to sacrifice quality just because you’re trying to save money!

While it might seem counterintuitive at first glance, and while some companies will tell you otherwise, using too many keywords in your title tags won’t help when it comes time for search engines like Google to rank them by importance or relevance. Instead, make it a point to create titles that are concise and relevant. This means that you should only ever include the most relevant keywords in your titles and not simply bombard them with random keywords that aren’t as relevant to your industry or business.

Finally, don’t try to game the system by doing things like buying views or likes on your videos or creating fake accounts and posting comments on your own videos. This can get you banned from the platform entirely. Also, don’t use copyrighted content. This includes music and images, but also videos that use copyrighted material like movie clips or TV shows, even if they’re just a few seconds long. Apart from being illegal, using copyrighted materials can get you severely penalized by YouTube. Take note that there are plenty of other things you can do to get yourself in trouble with YouTube’s algorithm, so make sure you read up on them before posting anything!
