01:35 Three Things People Don’t Know About Meta Tags
Meta tags are HTML tags that describe the page’s content. They’re invisible to the user, but they’re used by search engines to understand what a page is about.
The most common meta tag is “description,” which gives a short description of your page’s content.
Meta tags are especially important for pages with little or no text on them. If you don’t include any text on the page, Google will use its best judgment to understand what the page is about based on the information in the meta tag.
Including meta descriptions, which are the short sentences or two that appear under search results, helps increase click-through rate because it tells users exactly what they’ll find on your site when they click through. It also helps search engines understand what your site is about, so they can prioritize it when users search for something related to your site’s content or keywords!
The other type of meta tag is called a meta keyword. A meta keyword is a list of words or phrases that describe what your page is about. This appears in bold at the top of your browser window when you visit the site, along with other meta information.
Moreover, meta tags can be set directly in a document’s header or added via an HTML tag editor, like Dreamweaver or FrontPage. They’re often used together with title tags, which appear at the top of every browser window to provide a complete picture of what a site is all about.
While meta tags are fairly straightforward in their use, there are some things that people often don’t know about them.
Firstly, meta tags can be written in two ways. They can be “keyword-rich” or “keyword-focused.” The former means using keywords in the meta tag to describe your content, while the latter means making sure those keywords appear throughout your article’s text. Both methods have their place, so choose which one works best for you based on your goals and audience.
Next, meta tags can contain up to seven words with spaces between them, which should each appear on their own line in the code.
Lastly, you should try to keep the length of your meta description at 255 characters or less. Otherwise, Google will truncate it when displaying it on search results pages.
Meta tags can play a major role in the overall visibility of your site!
