That’s why in this video, we’re going to break down what NOT to do when performing keyword research for YouTube SEO.
First of all, don’t just go out and look for keywords that have a lot of search volume. That’s not going to help you in the long run. It’s actually one of the worst ways to go about choosing your keywords. The problem with this approach is that it ignores all other factors, like competition and relevancy. So, make sure you take those into account as well when choosing your keywords.
Secondly, don’t just look at Google AdWords Keyword Planner, SEMrush, Moz Keyword Explorer, or whatever other tools you might be using. These tools are great if you want to get an idea of what people are searching for on Google, but they’re not going to give you accurate data about how many people are searching for those terms on YouTube. So, don’t rely on them exclusively for your keyword research needs!
Thirdly, don’t use keywords that are too broad or too specific. If you’re looking for “SEO” videos, you might get results for “Search Engine Optimization” videos as well as “How To Do SEO On My Website” ones. That’s a lot of competition! It’s best to use more general terms like “Google Search” or “Search Engine Results Page.” Using broad match keywords can also be problematic because they’ll match up with lots of different variations of the same phrase. Examples of these are “How-To” or “How To.”
Finally, don’t use too many keywords at once. About one to three is enough. It’s better to focus on quality rather than quantity when it comes to keyword research!
